Circus horse

circus horse

This horse was part of a four painting series that was the final exercise in “2d techniques and materials” in “Minshar”. It was obvious that I’d choose a horse to be one of the four characters. I decided to make a dapple because that’s a color I never painted before; it was a nice experiment. During the making of this piece, I made the final decision to buy my own horse – so in some ways it will always remind me of that moment.

Divine blacksmith

blacksmith

This piece is one of three, “blacksmith-builder-tailor”. They are all acrylic on wood, and were done as an exercise in “Minshar”. The point was to portray some “guild professionals” from a list. I had a total creative block, but the urge to make a god out of the blacksmith helped me break through. I’m very happy with this piece, especially since it includes manly men, that are so rare in my repertoire. Truth be told, I liked it so much, that these three are hanging in my house, in a very prominent location.

Opera Poster

opera

The final project of illustrating course in “Minshar” art college was a fascinating one. We had a class competition designing a poster for an opera and the winner’s design gets to be the real poster of that opera! cool. The opera people said they want something young and different, so after some pondering around, I went wild. Anyway, I assumed it’s more just that someone that actually will make a living from this will win, so I could feel free. The opera is Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino”. By the way, the opera’s people didn’t like it claiming it was “too young and different”. whatever…

Birds and Cats

birds and cats

This was part of a project we did in “Minshar” art college. We had to design a wrapping paper and postcards for a pet shop, using hitching and water stains. I chose cats and birds because I didn’t feel too secure drawing them (and thus – a challenge) but didn’t feel they’re too intimidating (so it’d be a normal investment). I adore the result, specially the funny parts, like the bathing bird or the playing cat lying on his back.

Nude Cutout

nude cutout

This is a cutout work I did in “Minshar” art college. The technique was very frustrating, since I made such works before in the computer, and making vegetables the hard way wasn’t a good idea in my opinion. The minute we got homework, I asked for permission to change the subject and was happy to at least do something interesting.

Horses Grid

horse grid, scratchboard

This is a scratchboard work I did in “Minshar” art college. The technique was very cool, though the noise of an entire class scratching made me crazy. I made two pieces and enjoyed it a lot. This was the second work in this technique I did.

Mother Theresa

mother theresa

This is a scratchboard work I did in “Minshar” art college. The technique was very cool, though the noise of an entire class scratching made me crazy. I made two pieces and enjoyed it a lot. This was the first work – we had to choose a portrait, preferably an old person, to draw. I like it a lot.

Or Portrait

Or portrait

This was the first exercise in “2d technics” course in Minshar art college. We had to portray each other, using line only, with a limited time. Right after that, we portrayed another student with our other hand, and it was a shaky yet cool exercise. This is Or from my class, and to my great surprise he resembles himself, even though the constraint of line only (no fill) made him look much more… um… european that he is in real life.

Ex-Libris

exlibris

A beloved piece I made a long time ago. When we got an exercise of making an ex-libris, it was a natural choice. This is a nice example to what I like in the tribal drawings – the clean line, the simplicity.
